Essential reading for any Windows user!

Thank God I’m a Mac user.

Having been through tons of Apple and Mac crashes many years ago, and screaming even loudly because there were no handy resources via the Internet like there are today to help recover from such woes, the brand computer and operating system are not “special” when it comes to crashes.

Computer crashes happen for so many different reasons, ranging from electrical surges, virsuses, defective equipment, personal borking, and so many things, it’s a total PITA.

I don’t even think Linux has hardware conditioning and monitoring that prevents or protects against equipment failure, does it?

Gads I hate this crap, but you live and learn and suffer again and again and again and again and again.

Well, I’m the proud new owner of two new external drives. I wanted you to start investing in external and portable drives as I keep buying more of them to backup my monster systems.

I got one 400 gig Seagate drive with a DYI Adaptec Portable Hard drive enclosure. It’s lean and mean and the drive just barely slips in, so it will slip into my laptop briefcase really easily.

Add to that an 80 gig 2 1/4 “flash” hard drive that is half the size of a paperback book for plug-n-play hookup to anything with a USB or Firewire….I’ve got gigs coming out my ears.

The hard drive that is threatening to crash is a four month old 300 gig Maxtor, so I’ve got to dig out the warranty info on that…but at least I got more space to backup my monster drives.

    WEEEEEEE, I hate this.

Nicheplayer: yeah, I probably should have mentioned the links were primarily about windows. Macs still fail too, it is a hardware thing more over a software thing. You don’t hear about it as often, but then again less people use them so you wouldn’t but the actually hardware failure rate from a decent hardware provider would probably be similar.

Lorelle: I was thinking about getting one of those 400 gig seagates recently. That is alot of space, but amazingly I will eventually fill it and wonder how that happened. Like with my first 1gig hard drive (“that is like a THOUSAND megabytes, who would ever need that much?”) or any other “large jump” in storage (right now I have a 60 gig primary drive so 400 was going to be a large jump).

Thanks for the reference list of links though.

    Drew
